THE PRIMO EXPERIENCE...

Micah Hetrick writes... This was a television commercial shoot for the Primo brand of flavoured milk. Our client came to us with an interesting concept. They needed Lighting, audio and video all to run at the same time as well as being triggered by a fridge! The basic concept was that there was a good fridge and a bad fridge. Each would trigger a different set of lighting, audio and video sequences. Hidden cameras where placed throughout the shop to catch the reaction of the public when they would open a fridge.

Challenges:

Just how do I trigger all this stuff off a fridge??????? I was all setup to use midi on the road hog full boar until nick brought along a new device called a cue server. This had built in contact closures that could be wired directly to the fridges to trigger each different sequence. It took DMX straight in so each sequence was programmed by the Road hog and recorded by the cue server. At the same time it was sending a Midi trigger signal to a G4 Mac that would supply the video and audio. Once this was all setup the Road hog could be removed leaving a small 1u Rack mounted device to run the whole show. Any changes that needed to be done, where then done by a laptop linked wirelessly into the cue server. We were also able to give our client an iPhone app that could trigger but more importantly stop the fridges from triggering the sequence, just in case they wanted to stop the sequence from scaring the easily startled!
